MIL Status and monitors

I recently purchased a code reader for my 2004 Civic EX. I'm getting a code, P0134 which is related to the O2 Sensor (inactivity). I'm hoping it is just a wiring issue... I've heard that the actual wideband sensor is around $300.

At any rate, I am also getting some other stuff under ready inspection/maintenance monitors and I'm not sure what the ready monitors indicate. I was wondering if these readings indicate other issues or if they might help pinpoint the exact problem with the sensor (wiring issues, bad sensor, blown fuse, etc).

Here's what I see on the code reader:

P0134
MIL Status On
Monitors
0 inc
8 ready
Misfire
Fuel
Comp
Catalyst
Evap
02 sensor
02 heater
Egr

Does anyone know if these monitors indicate a problem or if they are just used for inspections or something?

Thanks!

Monitors are real time data. It can help you diagnose a problem if you know what to look for.

Re: MIL Status and monitors

Thanks for the info on the A/F sensor lazlong! I'll give that a try.

As for the monitors, I guess my scanner doesn't give out any further information on those. All I see is that they are ready, the list of the 8, and nothing more that I can tell. FWIW, I have an Actron CP9125.

Re: MIL Status and monitors

I pulled the ECU fuse to reset the ECU. I ran the engine at 3000 RPM until warmed then idled for a couple minutes. After that, I took the car out for a good 6 to 8 mile ride on the highway. Halfway into that, I think I dropped about 1/4 tank of fuel. However, I don't think the gas gauge went down any on the way back.

Once I got home, I hooked up the code reader again. No codes. The monitors were a little different. Now, instead of 8 ready, I have one inc. That was the evap monitor. Does evap in an inc state indicate a problem?

Thanks!

Re: MIL Status and monitors

I wanted to post a quick follow-up message since I've found some info on readiness monitors. It seems that the monitors may need to collect info before they are ready and that does not indicate a problem as I had feared. I found some information on a website and will share in case anyone has some of the same questions about readiness monitors that I had.

There's a good section on readiness monitors here: http://www.aa1car.com/library/ic10224.htm

Thanks!

You will have worse gas mileage until the computer re-learns.
