Really, REALLY, frustrated......need help.......please

my fiancees 2003 civic ex has been giving us some nightmares. it started about a year ago. we wouldnt get heat at idle in the winter, and then when summer came around, it would overheat, i replaced the thermostat, was good for about a week, then same symtoms, i replaced the head gasket, it was shot, and put another new thermostat in, was good for about a month. bought a honda thermostat and put that in, now its starting to act up. i have no clue whats going on. i dont see any leaks by the waterpump/timing belt housing. i really need help guys, her inspections comming up and she has some trouble codes that need to get fixed , and that alone will cost a pretty penny, this has to be relaible for her in the winter too. ANY help would be greatly appreciated

Yeah. Could be something simple like a bad radiator cap or low coolant. Or an old radiator. Check the fins.

Might have a leak somewhere, if you have a garage, keep it in the garage, put a pad of newspaper under your car, check in the morning to see if anything leaked

Looses hoses? Worn hoses? Check the condition of them just to rule them out.

Re: Really, REALLY, frustrated......need help.......please

if youre losing coolant and it doesnt leak, sounds like its being burnt due to bad headgasket.

Re: Really, REALLY, frustrated......need help.......please

sounds like a cracked head if gasket didnt fix the issue,
did you have the head resurfaced when you did the gasket?
might be a warped head.

We need to know the CEL's your getting- its your car's way of telling you whats wrong with it. If its not the thermostat, its probably the switch that turns the fans on and off (since your not getting any heat at idle)

Re: Really, REALLY, frustrated......need help.......please

It's gotta be a headgasket or cracked head, the coolant has to go somewhere.

Edit: Could also be a cracked block. If it's cracked below the piston it would be getting in your oil. Is the oil cloudy?
