Question fuel pump screen/ replace or clean?!? (pics included)

I've got a 2001 Honda Civic LX Coupe with bad gas in it. The car has been sitting for 3 years in a garage with about a gallon of gas in it. I'm wanting to replace fuel pump screen but don't have the money right now. I've been told that the screen can't be purchased separately from fuel pump . Anyway, I was wondering what type of solvent could be used to clean filter (without damage) until it can be replaced?

btw: nothing was wrong with the car 3 yrs ago, just decided to park the car without periodically starting up which totally drained battery

how about cleaning it with fresh gas? i would recommend just replace it, they are about $5 from advance auto, but most other place should sell them as well. technical name is a "fuel strainer"
