Question vibrating sound???

OK so I hear this annoying vibrating sound everytime i drive, the noise sounds like it is comin from somewhere under the hood over the driver side, u hear it when u just start driving but after u accelerate the noise is gone and u wont hear it anymore.....anyone has any clue what it could be?

Would transmission mounts cause something like this? also when is it recommende to change ur transmission mounts?

Re: vibrating sound???

could be heat shield, broken front engine mount. i think the front mount is also the trans mount. it usually goes in 10-20k miles. not a great piece cause the rubber always cracks. next time go with ES motor mount inserts. you will have lil bit more vibration (shaking, not noise), but it will never fail again.

Re: vibrating sound???

usually side mounts do not need changing. they take the least of the engine stress. i ended up taking out all my heatshields because of the rattles. two of em were so loose i could jiggle it with my hand due to rusted bolts. they are useless anyway, they just make it so that if the exhaust starts a fire on grass, it will not burn the car up as quickly. so unless you like parking on dry leaves alot, i would say you do not need a heatshield anywhere over the exhaust. you should leave the fitted shield that encloses the cat converter (not the big metal one on top of it, but the form fitting canister shields) because its required to keep the cat warmed up and working. the header shield is also needed unless you get the header jet-coated. it could still need tightening tho.

or, if you search around, CrewChief made a DIY guide for home made polyurethane solid motor mounts.

Re: vibrating sound???

Check the heat shield above the cat. I've removed both of mine due to the same noises.

Re: vibrating sound???

It's probably the heat shield on the exhaust manifold.

Re: vibrating sound???

soooo mad...i removed heat shield and sound is still there ...after further inspection u wouldnt believe wat was makin that annoying sound....the cruise control wires were moved from there original space and left hanging so with movement the were shaking and annoying the hell out of me...happy sound is gone but pissed at how little the problem was and all the **** i went thro before realizing wat it really waz....

Now my next thing is that movign that wire around seem to affect the speedometer (speedo not workin properly only works sometimes) becoz after moving it it stuck at 20mph even when i was not movin i am wondering if there are any wires broken inside and if that would cause my speedo to only work sometimes?
