Timing Belt, then Cam Shaft Pos. Sensor Problem

Last Friday I had the timing belt replaced on my 2004 Honda Civic LX (roughly 110K miles). Today, the car died because of a Cam Shaft Position Sensor. The mechanic states they're unrelated. I'm wondering: has anyone else faced this problem? It seems to me to be an incredible coincidence that we've had this car for six years and no engine trouble--literally none--and then three days after they work on the engine the car dies. Thanks for your help.

Re: Timing Belt, then Cam Shaft Pos. Sensor Problem

Sometimes other things go bad when you fix something. In this case I would say no, especially considering that the timing belt literally goes around that sensor.

First, try resetting the ECM/PCM: With the ignition OFF, pull the #6 fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds.

In the pic your looking at the driver's side. At the end of the blue screwdriver is the electrical connector for the CMP sensor. Wiggle it around and try to seat it better and/or pull it off the sensor and see if is dirty inside the connector. Then reset the ECM/PCM and if that doesn't make it go away take it back to the mechanic and tell him it worked until he touched it when he did the timing belt and that he needs to fix it. In the real world the best your probably gonna get in this situation is free labor.
