i have been reading different threads on here however, i don't know that much about cars and im having a hard time piecing it all together.
my car was parked in my underground with no insurance. so i have to fix this on my own now before i can get parking insurance.
2005 civic se coupe
driver door lock f#%ked
ignition same as door
i have found same make/model/year for parts cheap.
i was just going to take keys/ignition/door lock
HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS
immobilizer in ignition or ecu? or neither?
can i change ignition/key AND ecu or immobilizer to avoid the dealership?
or no matter what i gotta go dealership?
i seen in one thread something about a pcm or pcu?
in another thread i read something about bypassing immobilizer?
can some one please explain these parts, there functions, how they relate and there importance?
Please Help!

Please Help! The immobilizer is in the ignition switch. It is there to protect your car from getting stolen. The immobilizer reads the chip in the key that will crank your car. If you do not have a chip in the key that is programmed for that immobilizer then you cannot crank your car, you will only be able to turn to on and thats it.
The pcm or pcu is the correct term for ecu.
And you can bypass the immobilizer. You have to by this part that will turn the immobilizer off. If you do this then anyone can steal your car.
Now if you get a new ignition then it should come with a immobilzer I would say. It might I am not sure. If it does then you might need to reprogram the immobilizer to the ecu/pcm so that they will work together.
The way it works is you stick your key in the ignition and the immobilizer will read the chip in the key and if it recognizes it it will send something to the ecu telling it that it can crank the car if it does not recognize it then it will send something to say not to crank it. So either way you go with either new key, ignition switch, or pcm you will have to get them reprogrammed unless you turn the immobilizer off.
