Paint Job Query
Hello,
I have a 2002 Honda Civic that has some rather nasty looking oxidation spots on the roof (I believe it's "clear coat delaminate"). Today I was quoted about $1,100 to repaint ONLY the roof, and I would likely have to allow for four days to complete the process. Please understand that I'm not trying to be cheap, but I would have expected that kind of fee for repainting the entire car, unless I'm simply woefully naive (which is likely the case!). On top of the repair cost, I would also have to rent a car for several days, unless I did this while on vacation. Are there any other options? Could I simply buy some touch-up paint from Honda and try to fix the damage myself, or would it look too obvious? I won't be ready for a trade-in for at least another two years, but I'm afraid the car will look too bad at that point, especially since the process will have likely spread to other sections.
I live in Longwood, Florida.
Many thanks for any suggestions from this Florida gal who, like all of us, wants the best option for her hard-earned cash!

Re: Paint Job Query
You generally get what you pay for with body shops. But that price seems pretty outrageous. Compare with other shops and ask what kind of paint are they using? how many coats of clear? What prep work does that include?
Re: Paint Job Query
Next time u go in, they quote u a big $number. You go, OK that's the lifetime, 20 years warranty paint job, now how much for a 2 years paint job, because that's how long am going to keep the car and see what they say.

Re: Paint Job Query
i have had estimates to paint a small body part anywhere from $25 to $200. same work, same paint and clear, different shop. for a whole front lip, i was quoted $100 which is pretty fair, other places wanted close to $400, which is more than what a brand new prepainted lip costs from honda lol.
