Fuel smell after filling tank...
I'm the original owner of an 02 civic lx manual and haven't had any issues w/ the car til now....the past 4 times I've filled up, there's been a lingering, heinous fuel smell coming from the car and making the interior AND entire garage stink of fuel. The smell is at it's peak during the first 3 days after the tank has been filled. It seems the more I drive it and the tank gets lower, the odor dicipates and doesn't surface again til the next fill up. I'm not topping off because all the gas pumps out here have auto shut off, and I always make sure that the gas cap is on tight, so I doubt it's that.
I don't know what the problem is...this is the 1st summer in Las Vegas that this has happened. I'm not a pro, but I think maybe a fuel line or tank has been damaged or cracked, maybe the cap to the fuel pump is loose...who knows.
Any advice/suggestions???

First thing I would do is look for broken/craked fuel lines. Rubber parts deteriorate faster than metal. Look around the fuel pump especially. I would not worry about the tank unless it has been damaged or is rusty. May be from the EVAP system.
