I wondered about this too.
This forum gets a lot of traffic but they only post when there's issues with their cars but don't go out of their way to try to help or be part of the community.

Re: Why the hell is this people only watching??
Because this forum went severely downhill after it ditched the mainly 7thgen thing in lieu of a civic-wide forum. The owners didn't listen to the huge community we used to have, and thus, somewhat of a ghost town (compared to what it use to be) was born
Re: Why the hell is this people only watching??
There was another forum (motorcycle) that didn't listen to its members and they basically told their members if you didn't like the way things were run then to go make your own forum. So they did. And now that forum had went from thousands of members to 8 active members. And eventually had shut down.
Once a forum starts to draw in a lot of members they have to be open-minded, and accommodating IMO.
That and it helps if they invest some money into rebuilding the site for a fresher look.
Just my .02
So, who actually owns the site? I only see Gearbox (mod) here. Where are the other teammates?

Yea.. the old owner (guy named derek) told us he sold the site (this was back in 06, I believe) , but he said the new guys wouldn't change it.. Then the new guy came in (CivicDave, IIRC, is the current owner) and asked us what we thought if he changed it from 7thgencivic.com (type it in, it redirects here.. it actually started at 2k1civic.com) to an all generation civic forum. We said it'd be a horrible idea, it would ruin the community, it would turn into another shitty club-civic forum, etc. The guy said "no it won't, it'll make it better" then changed it. Then this site went downhill..
That's also why this site seems to be geared toward the 7thgen the most, with smaller focuses on the older generations. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look at the various generation-specific forums, and see which one has the most sub-forums.
Sure, we had a buncha folks that had older civics, some that didn't have civic's at all, but it was mainly aimed toward 2001-2005 civics, 02-05 Si's included, obviously.. lol
I doubt the original owners even visit the site anymore.. I think the "CivicDave" threads are automated bot *****.. The 7thgen community used to be HUGE, and awesome..
I think I'm done reminiscing now..

Re: Why the hell is this people only watching??
That sucks because most of those '01-'05 Civic owners would have been pre-gen owners as well. So they could have provided more than enough support to those owners.
But don't you worry you're little head...I'm here. LOL!

Look what I came across?
https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...critisism.html
This story reminds me of a motorcycle site that was sold to a Canadian company. This company went and bought almost every motorcycle forum you can think of. They were offering big $$$ to the owners ($60K if not $100K) and the owners basically said F U to their members and sold the site.
The company came in and started to make false promises. I was an admin at one of the sites they purchased and knew exactly what they had planned though they didn't announce any of it to the staff. It was like playing a chess game...using their pawns first to lure people in. Eventually, they turned the sites into a huge advertising site, and charging members to sign up. Free accounts were still available but your account was very limited.
I left the site and with a help of others made a local forum for Socal members.
The problem with these privately owned sites is that most of them go gaga over the wad of $$$ waved in front of them instead of taking the time to use what resources they have (their members) and turn it into a gold mine if they placed more time/effort into it.
So basically the previous owner F'd everyone, and bailed with the money.
And now this site is like a ghost town. I, for one, would love to see this site regain its popularity but I'm not too keen on helping any corporation make $$$ especially when it screwed its initial members.

It's kinda hard to forget since 7thgencivic was still my home page and I'm still sporting "7thgencivic.com" stickers on my rear quarter windows.. haha.. I had a major lack of posting in years past because the Navy kinda did consume a good bit of my time..

Re: Why the hell is this people only watching??
Hell no. I thought about it, even had the razor blade in my had standing 2 feet from my driver side rear quarter window. I didn't have the heart to take 'em off.
As for the Navy, technically, yes I'm out for good. The reason why it's "technically yes" instead of a straight up "yes" is because everyone that joins the military is obligated to 8 years of service. What people sign up for on their enlistment contracts is their "active duty" time. The rest of the time is "individual ready reserve," which is pretty much the reserves that get called to duty if WW3 broke loose and all the active reserves aren't enough to fight the war. That said, I spent 6 years active duty, and I have 2 years of inactive reserves left.

some of the guests are search bots and spider bots. most are just human guests who just want the info to their question and dont feel like signing up and posting. if you notice, majority of new users come in and ask something, then when they get an answer they say thanks and you never see em again.
