YAY Tranny issues???

Hi, I have an 01 civic automatic w/ 81 K on it.

I noticed today (after driving 50 miles on the highway) when I stopped at a stop sign my transmission did a slight jerk. I was going 40 then stopped then it was an obvious jerk that only lasted a second.

I've checked the fluid it doesn't smell burnt or even appear dirty (wtc), its clean and pink. So do you think this is horrible, like its a sign that my tranny is gonna go? Or is this normal?

Thanks

early 7th gen civics are notorious for bad trannies. don't mean to discourage, but that's the case... as far as YOUR tranny goes, I don't have any constructive input, as I don't know much about transmissions. mine is having problems too, which is why I know 01 civics have crap trannies.... google it and see for yourself.

i'm swapping mine for an 04 or 05. i suggest you look into it if you're having problems, just in case. honestly though, 81k is good for an 01 from what i understand.

well it could be that it was just downshifting. doesn't really sound much like the usual torque converter failure. but then again, i have a manual and what little i know about the autos is just what i've heard from others.

Re: YAY Tranny issues???

My SO thinks its fine, he was like "its a 10 yr old car, so it's not gonna be perfect bla bla bla."

I had an accord that actually was slipping in and out of gear and jerking horribly, and it was nothing like that with this civic.

So.... is downshifting normal/okay?? I think it jerked when I started going again, like right after I stopped.

I seriously am considering learning how to drive a manual/stick now. I'm so over Honda's automatic transmissions.

Thanks

lol, downshifting is ok. coming to a stop in say 5th gear is um...not advised. the car will stall. shifting is not always smooth especially in a manual. even in an auto, you can usually feel the shifting.

if you press the gas, the rpms go up but you're not accelerating, then that's when you know the trans is starting to fail or has failed.

Just start saving up for a manual swap, whether its going or not and park that money to the side. Chances are if you plan to own the car for a few years, you will be replacing the transmission I don't think the 04-05 ones are much better, maybe a little...

yeah i've noticed the downshifting is pretty rough sometimes on hondas, when braking down a hill it almost always has a noticeable "jerk" when it downshifts
