Car Won't Start
My 02 Civic LX will no longer start after a fuel pump change. It has a header, cat delete pipe with defouler, exhaust, short ram intake, and Viper Keyless Entry / Remote Starter installed. I took it into Autozone while it still worked and they checked the codes and returned it too lean on all four cylinders and misfires on all four. The reason I did this was because the car normally cuts out around 4K on the tachometer. My friends and I checked the spark plugs (NGK Iridiums) and they were fine. Next we went to this post: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...placement.html and started to perform a fuel pump filter change.
As far as we could tell there isn't a normal filter in there just a pump, and strainer attached to it. We then put the car all back together and it turned on and drove around still with the misfires. I went into my friend's house and came back out to start it up, and the car would no longer start. So I got a new fuel pump and installed in the next week. This is when we noticed that there was a hole in the hose that goes from the pump to the the fuel line, so we replaced that. At this time it started to make sense why the car would cut out when I really gave it gas and always seemed to perform a lot better on a full tank. Once we got the relay back in and the battery hooked up we tried starting it and nothing. Our next step was to use ether to start the car and see if we could keep it running. Well the ether started the car just fine but cut out after it ran out.
We took the fuel rail apart and noticed that fuel is getting to it now with new pump and hose its just not making it through the injectors. We checked the FI fuse in the fuse box in the engine bay and it looked perfect. So I got some used injectors and a rail that were inspected and installed them. We used some ether to help the engine get started and start getting gas pumped through it. Car still starts with the ether and ran like normal until the ether ran out...
The next thing I tried was getting a new relay for the FI (the blue one inside the glove box) and still nothing.
At this point I have become very frustrated and just want my car back after about 3 - 4 weeks of not having it. What are some other things I can try before taking it into a shop for them to tell me that it is something stupid and small, then charge me $200+? A few friends who work on Camaros and older Hondas have mentioned cam position sensors and a few other things. What do you guys think?
