2001 Civic.

The A/C stopped working so I removed the front wheel and splash guard to see if the compressor is turning.

I found the center of the clutch armature missing and the nut and a couple of thin washers fell on the floor.

The compressor turns by rotating the end of the shaft.

I've tried calling the local auto parts stores, but they only appear to sell the clutch as part of the compressor. So my questions are:

1/ This appears like a rare failure for an A/C system. Has anybody seen this before?

2/ Could this be a symptom of something else wrong?

3/ Where can I get the parts I need? My next stop is the junkyard.

yes, this is a very late reply to an old post but just today I removed a compressor for a 2000 Civic to find the exact problem. The entire clutch was missing! How retarded can you get Honda/Sanken! Use some damn thread locker at the factory on the clutch assembly and this $hit won't happen. Or did you design it this way on purpose? Built in obsolescence?

Anyone else see this? Class action time folks.
