Misfiring Problem

I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a problem im having. I have an 01 civic with 1.7 lier engine. I have no aftermarket parts on the vehicle (commuter vehicle). Over the last couple of months I have been throwing a cylander 2 misfire code. I replaced all of the spark plugs(NGK iriduims). This did not fix the problem (code would go on and off in a week period). I then replaced the cylander 2 coil pack. This also did not fix the problem. At this point I am stumped so I disconnect the battery to reset the computer to make sure its an actual mechanical problem. After doing this misfiring has gotten worse. I then did a full fuel induction cleaning thinking maybe fuel injector problem. This also did not help, however the misfiring got much more predictable. (I had a mechanic check my valves which were dirty before the induction cleaning). I can feel the vehcie shutter between 1200 and 2000 RPMS. Any other thoughts on what this could be? My last resort is to place the injector. But I also feel like im throwing money at a ghost. I am having a compression test done but I wanna get some feedback on maybe something im not looking into. Thanks.

Re: Misfiring Problem

I would get a leak down done, and if that isnt the problem, THEN I would change your injector.

Re: Misfiring Problem

I had a similar problem with misfire codes, turned out to be dirty injectors, you may have to remove the injectors for cleaning or replace them. I tried the gas tank injector cleaning but that did not help, I ended up removing the injectors and cleaning the intake system. Good luck.

Re: Misfiring Problem

I did a compression test today which came back good. I have 133K so there was a little wear on cylander 3 and 4 but nothing major. I pulled all of the injectors out and cleaned them. The car runs great now(like new) except for the shutter between 1300 RPMS and 2000 still. Im thinking the next thing to do is a valve adjustment. If a valve adjustment doesnt work maybe its the camshaft? I have not checked the fuel pressure. Is there any quick way to do that?

Re: Misfiring Problem

excellent. i was just about to say, you should actually clean the injectors by hand because the store additives for gas never work. fuel pressure should be easy with a gauge tester, there is a port you can tap into near the engine but ive never done it. they sell them at the auto store so you may want to get your own or just make friends with a shop and have them throw the tester on. it doesnt take very long to check. have you checked the condition of the new plugs since installing em? that may show some clues. you may also want to clean up the intake system and lube the throttle body plate. maybe it is just sticking at certain rpms.
