auto trany stuck in drive

my 2003 honda civic is stuck in drive. the shifter moves freely from park to drive, but the trany dosn't actually shift out of drive. also when driving it, it won't shift out of 1st gear no matter which selection it is in? any thoughts on what i broke. the shifter cable appears to be ok. i am assuming something in my trany broke.

this happened after an incindent when i got my honda stuck in some snow and was attempting to free myself by rocking it back and forth. it has about 150k on it.
