Grinding Sound When Turning

Hello everyone. First time poster. I have a 2003 Honda Civic EX 4-speed automatic with 115,000 miles on it. I got it about 2 years ago after my old one was totaled. I knew that the one I bought had been in an accident with the front end and was fixed up, but my mechanic said it was fine. It has run pretty much perfectly since I got it.

A few months ago I noticed a couple of things.

- If my car sits for a while, once I drive it again the transmission revs a little higher than normal between first and second gear one time. It never has any transmission issues other than this, but this really isn't a problem is it?

- If my car sits for a while and I put the car in drive or reverse, within 20 feet I hear one little "hump" sound coming from the engine/transmission area. That is the only time I hear it, but I just wanted to know if that was anything out of the ordinary.

- The main issue is that whenever I turn left or right, I hear a light grinding sound, a "tink tink tink" sort of thing. I brought it to the Honda dealer, and the technician said that part of the plastic bumper is rubbing against the shock or whatever connects the wheel tot he rest of the car. He said that over time the sound will diminish as the plastic gets worn down. When I brought the car to the dealer, it was only happening when I turned right. Now it happens when I turn left or right, and the sound is becoming slightly more noticeable. It sounds like the sound that brakes make when they are rough after the car sits in the rain. I didn't think the car could make this sound if plastic is rubbing against metal, since it sounds more like a metal on metal sound. Any guesses?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Grinding Sound When Turning

With the trans i would check the fluid and if it looks a little dirty change it.
On the rubbing just turn the wheels all the way one way and look under to see if its rubbing. And then the other way. It may also be something like a ball joint thats bad. Tho's are the rubbers that connect tie rods and a arms and things like that. If they look torn that might be a problem. All tho's little things all have a job to do and cause problems when they arnt working right.
