Alternator

sup everyone

I checked the battery voltage while the car is on its 12.6v or less.
When I drive it it makes a loud whining noise. not from the stereo..i can hear it coming from the engine bay. The battery light is not on.
You guys think i got a bad alternator? i have checked all fuses.

I might drive it to autozone and check

Re: Alternator

yeah just have it checked. our alternators are tricky, cause there is a load detector that turns it off when power isnt needed. have someone turn the fan **** from off to full while you check battery voltage with the car running. or turn the a/c on. something that draws alot of power and will cause the eld to turn the alternator on full power.

Re: Alternator

The voltage across the battery posts should be around 14V or a little higher. Clean and tighten the battery terminals and the ground wire connection. Have you checked whether the alternator belt is tight? Any electrical problems?

Re: Alternator

What year Civic? If it is 96-00, check whether 7.5A fuse 15 under the dash is blown.

If you have a 7th gen Civic, check 10A fuse 4 under the dash.

Re: Alternator

Pinpoint the noise using an inexpensive engine stethoscope.

You'll generally get more specific information by mentioning the year/trim Civic.
