Fuel Pump removal
Fuel Pump removal
I have an 01 civic and am trying to remove the fuel pump - sending unit from the fuel tank. I am at the point where I am trying to maneuver the assembly out of the tank. Has anyone does this before and can give me some advice on how to get this thing out of the tank? I appreciate the help.
Re: Fuel Pump removal
Oh yeah its easy. I changed the fuel pump in the car, all I did was lay down some plastic.
Also pull out the pgm main relay (the leftone behind the glove box) and start the car. the car should start and die right away. unplug your battery. so after you take off the screws for the cover panel you can set it off to the side. There should be a wire just take the clip off and move it off to the side. This is the part that's a pain in the ***..... the top of it has a threaded plastic piece that you have to unscrew, the only thing with this is how hard it is to turn off. I had to use some pliers and alot of force to unscrew it. after you get the treaded ring off set side and then you can lift the entire unit out. it's best to change your pump when there isn't as much fuel in the car, that way when you lift the unit out of the fuel there isn't as much fuel to try and drain off. the unit is going to be in kind of an L shape that goes into the tank, lift it out it'll come straight out of the take. becareful with the hard plastic lines because you don't want to break them also make a note of where the o-rings are located (should be changed). then you have to deal with getting the cage that is around the fuel up off and that will allow you to remove the pump. while this is off inspect your fuel filter. if you have any more problems let me know and you should be good with this. It wasn't hard to figure out after you get started just make sure after you pull the unit out to cover the hole to the tank so nothing get's inside and also that you dont catch your car on fire!
