Broke hazard light plug

Hi guys, just new to this forum, was changing a head unit on a 2001 es civic and accidentally cut the wrong plug off. Instead of the audio, i had a lapse of concentration and cut the hazard light plug. Is there a way to pull the "pins" out of the hazard light plug and put in the old wires again. I was going to just solder it together, however I realised that i cut too close to the plug so that might be difficult.

Or do I have to buy a new hazard light plug? Thanks.

well the plug connector does not come with the switch. youre gonna have to find that from junkyard. or end up buying a full expensive harness from the dealer. see if you can take the pins out with a tiny screwdriver. if they are standard, you may be able to buy replacement pins from a computer store and add wire to them.

the switch is fine, its just the plug that you plug into the back of the facial panel.

Re: Broke hazard light plug

Did you leave enough wire length on the connector side where you could splice it back to the harness wire for wire ??

Get the wiring adaptor harness set for the head unit connections, you should not have to cut anything.

Re: Broke hazard light plug

i did find a solution that used some stuff i had around the house.

1. small computer or glasses screwdriver FLATHEAD
2. long metal pushpin (small plastic one might work but longer is better)
3. hammer
4. needle nose pliers
5. 16-22 gauge wire
6. wire crimper/strip tool

first, open up both top and bottom gates. each is connected at the sides and can be gentle pried open with a small computer screwdriver. i said GENTLY! you will see the side thin plastic hinges are very fragile.

if you DIDN'T leave enough wire to splice like me (d'oh!) you can open up and remove the wires from the connector by using a pushpin (large long metal ones work best) and driving them down with a hammer to open up the metal connectors to free the wires. Jiggle it around once it is in to open the connector as much as you can. Then take your needle nose pliers and pick out any excess left over wire.

cut decent lengths of spare wire (3-4 inches for me). helps if they are the same length so take the time to measure. strip them one both ends. i used the pliers to grip one end while i yanked with the other.

once you have all the wires, begin to insert them into the connector slots. i used the small screwdriver to crimp the connectors as best i could. use as much strength as you can to smash without breaking it.

now you can connect them with some wire connectors. check if you blew any fuses if your light signals/hazards aren't working (both fuse boxes under the hood and under steering wheel).

took me a whole night since i had another mode of transportation. hope this helps someone else!
