Im a new Honda civic 2002 si owner. My idle runs up and down from 1k to 2k at idle. The guys at the local auto parts store said it's the Engine Idle Valve. Is this a tough change?

The guy at the parts store is a mechanic??? The idle air control valve is a tough change ... your actually better off the replace the whole throttle body. You can find them on ebay for cheap... I'd run some diagnostics on it to make sure that's whats wrong, or get a mechanic to check it out. Also, before replacing the idle air valve make sure you clean it first. That will fix it, most of the time.

its usually the TPS if the rpm goes up and down. idle valve would not cause that, rather it would just cause rough or low idle, and possibly stalling. so yeah a new tb is in order. you could try fully taking apart and cleaning the old one, it might help.
