Civic 1.7 CDTI Limp mode issues
Civic 1.7 CDTI Limp mode issues
Hi guys,
I was hoping some one out there could help me.
ABout two weeks ago sat in traffic my engine cut out, as I was pretty low on fuel and heading for a garage at the time I assumed I had run out of fuel and i walked to the local garage to get a can of deisel. I put this in after walking back and the car started no problem. I did approx 30 miles after this. On the way to work the next morning the car broke down once and the glow plugs light was showing (It had also been showing the night before when i had broke down however had gone out temporarily). I had read in the manual about the glow plugs light indicating something to do with running out of fuel and had also managaed to rememebr about the pump to get rid of air out of the system? So i gave this a few pumps and tried (this went on about 3 times) eventually it started and i did the further 15 miles to work no problem.
On the way back from work during the 30 mile journey I broke down about 10 times the car just cutting out during driving after a little judder so i calle dout the RAC break down service. They bled the system of air and it then proceeded to break down a couple more times. He then did a code read and this read a faulty crankshaft reading. And it turned out i most likely didnt run out of fuel and was just a coincidence i was running low at the time...(??)
Anyway I took it too the local garage who did the code read, read the same result and proceeded to replace the crankshaft sensor.
I then picked up the car and within a mile or 2 the engine MIL light came on (It hadnt as previous) I carried on driving and then the car lost all power , looks like it went into limp mode reading other threads here.
I took it back to the garage to have a look at and they read the codes which said that 1) Boost pressure was low & 2) EGR valve stuck open (I think).
They took out the EGR valve which was reported to be clogged up with muck / carbon and gave it a good cleaning - they test ran it for about 20 miles. I then had the car back.
I reset the milage clock so that if another problem were to occur I knew how far Id got before it had occured, with about 70- 80 miles I felt that I hadnt got the poke/pull as i should have (Mainly in 3rd gear) and this gradually gt worse up to around 90 miles done (90 miles spread acrosee 6/7 different trips and over 3-4 days). At this point whilst driving again the limp mode fully kicked in and I couldnt get above 2000 RPM.
I have now taken the car back to the garage.
Wondering if anyone could shed any light on this at all, Im hoping they will come back with a solution but Ive lost so much confidence in the car now im worried when i pick it up within a couple of days the problems going to repeat.
The garage seem to be pretty good and didnt charge me for the second code read or the cleaning of the egr valve.
Do you think any of the incidents are related etc????
Heres hoping somebody can shed some light on this for me! and many thanks in advance!
Ben

Re: Civic 1.7 CDTI Limp mode issues
Well Im pretty sure I did! Once i topped it up it did 30 miles befor eit next broke down and then after thecrankshaft sensor and Egr valve cleaning its done another 90 mile - if hadnt of put diesel in it wouldnt have done that would it??? (Not great with cars)... believe me - I have asked my self a few times, but im pretty sure!....
