Hope someone can help
I hope someone can help with a BIG problem I am having with a 2004 civic ex.
The car continues to overheat after replacing the fan switch and thermometer. It appears that the coolant is cold in the radiator when the car overheats according to my husband, we are stumped. The car has had a new head on it...it was blown, a new water pump..actually 2 the first was defected. We also put in a new computer part? Someone HELP! PLease?

Re: Hope someone can help
could be clogged radiator too or heater core. do both fans come on when you turn on the A/C? does the single cooling fan turn on when the car gets too hot (usually driving in 85F+ weather will do it)? how do the upper and lower radiator hoses feel? they should both be hot but the top hose should be hotter. on a cold day you can definately feel a difference, but on a hot day they should both be very hot. if the top hose is hot but bottom is cool, you have clogged radiator. you may also have air bubbles in the cooling system. when the car is cold, open the radiator cap and start the car. let it warm up to normal temp, revving a bit will get there faster. watch the coolant in the radiator. it should be completely full, and if it drops you need to keep adding coolant. make sure the fan is turned on to max and the heat is on full hot. keep watching until air bubbles stop appearing in the radiator hole. keep the coolant filled to the top. once bubbles stop, turn the car off and replace the cap.

Thanks for responding to my question. The fans do come on with the AC. As far as the other fan I'm not sure. We had a new switch put on the fans this past week. Actually this car has been in the shop 5 times since the head gasket blew. Today will make 6 since my husband can't come up with what is going on.
We purged the radiator and got out all the air pockets, put in the necessary anti-freeze...we did notice that we have no heat. The radiator is new from the repair when the head gasket blew.
I am so disgusted with this car I want to drive it over a cliff, matter of speech. I don't know what to do or say to our mechanic since he will be looking at the for the 6th time now. We have a 1 year warranty on the head gasket work but I am tired of going back.
I really like this car but I'm lost on what to do with it....Maybe put my mechanic in the right direction so he will fix it for the last time?

Re: Hope someone can help
if you have no heat, but air still blows out, sounds like the heater core is clogged (the piece under the dash where coolant is routed for heating. if there is coolant in the system, and its not leaking or burning, then its just not properly circulating thru the engine. could be a bad waterpump too thats not working properly. check the radiator hoses and post back about how hot they get.
