I just had a long weekend of maintenance on the car. '02 LX sedan, replaced cracked exhaust manifold with a DC Race Header, put on DC cat-back, new oil-pan, oil-pump, PCV valve, cleaned breather cover, and did a lot of cleaning on the bay, just with degreaser and a rag.

My problem is: Now, like only the first time I try to accelerate, it almost stalls out. So I have to stop and rev i a little, then once it picks itself back up, it runs great until the next time I start it.

I forgot to do the idle re-learn procedure, so might be the problem?

There aren't any CEL's on.

Oh, I replaced the front O2 sensor too, but not the rear one, it is in an angled non-fouler.

Wow, you did a lot of things that could be affecting your performance. You'll have to just start retracing your steps and see if you did anything wrong.

yes thats exactly what you need to do first. i was only half way through reading your post and thought 'i wonder if he did let the car relearn the new idle'.

undo your negative terminal, leave it for about 15 min, connect it again, turn the car on and dont touch a single thing for 10-15 minutes. no brakes, gas, nothing. after you havent touched anything, shut the car off. the next time you go for a drive everything should be ok.


from what youre saying, its like the car turns on thinking its still set to the old full exhaust system, when it goes to give juice it bogs out and then realises its not running on the old system and adjusts instantly. i think when you let it relearn once more properly, it should be ok.

I did the re-learn right after I posted last night. Then took it for a drive. This morning it still did it. But it seems to not do it if I let it warm up for longer than usually. I think I'm going to see if there are any codes that aren't triggering a CEL. I was going to clean the IAC valve also, but haven't gotten to it yet.

It was my throttle cable! When I was cleaning it I must have gotten it off of the spool. It was only half on the spool it wraps around on the throttle-body, so I cleaned it up, adjusted it and now the car runs great.

Woah man that sounds exactly like my car, could it be the same problem it just randomly started happening around first 10-15 seconds of driving i'd step on the gas and it wont accelerate, then the problem is gone, i have I/H/E setup.

I thought it was the fuel pump or IAC, or fuel filter,or throttle i still cant figure it out. Stupid people at Honda dealer just charged me $100 to tell me its the head gasket which i know thats not it....

Yeah it came back now, I thought I had it fixed. But yeah, you're problem sounds exactly like mine. I have thought about fuel pump, filter, maybe an injector. Or a scary thought was leaking valve seals or bad rings, cause if the valve seals are leaking you could be getting oil resting on top of you're pistons, so when you star it up it would run like **** until it burns the oil up. Hope it's not that, gotta go get my codes read.
