Hi everybody. Its been a looong time since I posted anything on this forum! A buddy was driving my car and killed my clutch. So I NEED HELP choosing between a few clutch kits:
http://www.dezod.com/pd-act-heavy-duty.cfm
vs.
http://www.statracing.com/buy/cci/co...-kit_honda.asp
Right now I a streetlite flywheel which will be resurfaced with the clutch install.
I don't race at all, but like all of us, I tend to drive on the aggressive side.
Not sure what else you might need to know to help me, but PLEASE give me some advice!!! Im more interested in any experience with the ACT OE replacement that is supposed to be 25% stronger than oe.
I have been gone through 2 ACT heavy duty stage 1 clutches in the past 2 years....so I am trying to avoid getting that again. Any other suggestions are appreciated tooooooooo!
Also...i am getting the dreaded clicking sound from the input shaft bearing (second time its happened). Where can I buy one of those?

If you are burning out a clutch a year than it's one of two things: There is something wrong, or you don't know how to drive standard. (sorry) I'm not trying to offend you but I drive VERY aggressively and have had the same clutch in my car for 4 years or 70, 000 miles. The clutch is still in great shape. It could also be something wrong but if you have gone through 2 ACT clutches your doing the right thing not buying another one. If you don't race why not just get an OE replacement clutch from a different manufacturer? Or even go OEM?
It's the little things that save the clutch like not hovering your foot over the pedal and not using the gas pedal excessively while shifting. Of course the worst thing for the clutch is dropping the pedal at 5000 RPMS to impress the girls on the corner and then getting nothing but a slip and a nasty smell. That'll teach me.

Re: Old Member - HELP with choosing clutch PLEASE
Well if you run a 6-puck unsprung disc on a dual-diaphragm plate and drop the clutch at 5K, the only thing that smokes is the tires.
That said, a lot of folks don't like a heavy clutch nor do they need one if they don't have a serious power-adder strapped to the motor. That Action 6-puck sprung single diaphragm clutch setup I posted is actually really nice for an aggressive daily clutch. Because of the friction material on the pucks, there is chatter with it. Hell, I ran the aforementioned big (unsprung, dual-diaphragm) and would rarely get clutch chatter.
But if you're worried about your skirt getting blown up by those 6 pucks, go with a Stage 1 Exedy full face clutch. I ran that clutch for about 2 years and it held up to about 250whp before it started to slip once I boosted the motor.

Re: Old Member - HELP with choosing clutch PLEASE
ya know....nobody really ever sat down and taught me how to drive a standard......I used to sneak out my parents cars when I was younger and thats how I learned. When i finally got my license, my folks were impressed to see that I could drive stick "my first time" lol.
that being said....i did not know that using the gas pedal while shifting was bad...in fact, I thought thats how you are supposed to drive a standard..?!? Thats pretty much how I drive it everyday (i know, i know....laugh it up!). I do get compliments that you can't even tell the difference between how i drive and how an automatic feels (in terms of gear shifts). But i guess i will have to change the way I drive lol.
Anyway...
I don't want OE cuz i hate the wet noodle feel of the stock clutch pedal. once I changed to the ACT clutch I loved the feel - it just didn't last long. i know I want something stronger than stock....but at the same time, the only mods i have are:an aem header, act streetlite flywheel and a flowmaster exhaust (and revo ss) which do not warrant anything stronger than a stock clutch.
Thats why I had posted the ACT replacement which says 25% stronger than OE.
Sorry for the dumb questions..but....whats clutch chatter and why would my skirt get blown up from the 6 pucks? lol

I have a clutch and FW FAQ (it's stickied in the F/I FAQ) on 7thgenhonda.com that pretty much answers all of your questions. I'd link you but can't access that site from work.
Clutch chatter is when the car goes "dukka dugga dukka dugga" when you put the car in motion from a stop because of the clutch being so stiff.

Re: Old Member - HELP with choosing clutch PLEASE
i found some info on it but its making my head hurt. This is why i am not a mechanic. lol.
I like yur dukka dugga explanation better!!!
so, the Competition Gravity Clutch and the one you posted are 6 puck (well, the gravity says 6 pad, but i assume its the same?) and the ACT OE replacement is a full face.....I am concerned about 2 things....lifespan and their daily driving abaility.
Of the 3 we are discussing (2 6-pucks and 1 full face) which will have better lifespan (assuming i correct my driving style) and which will be the smoothest.
sorry for all the newb questions. you stop reading up on these things and you forget! definitely not like riding a bike (for me anyways!!)

Re: Old Member - HELP with choosing clutch PLEASE
oh ya.... I don't really need an explanation....just a quick answer...
Do i want sprung or unsprung for daily driving?!

Re: Old Member - HELP with choosing clutch PLEASE
I didn't mean don't use the gas, just don't use too much gas
I'm just gonna stop that right there as I'm confusing everyone haha.

Re: Old Member - HELP with choosing clutch PLEASE
Sprung for daily driving is probably what you want to go with. Easier on the drivetrain as the disc absorbs some of the clutch engagement shock.
