My emissions light is coming on and going off at random. Took the car to honda dealer and they said my exhaust manifold and catalytic converter needs replaced and will cost over $1000 to fix. Help, does anyone know if this is my only option? I have an 03 Honda Civic SI

hmm is the cat part of the manifold? i didnt think the si had that setup. are you sure its not just an oxygen sensor that didnt go bad? also, all newer cars have an 8 year/80k mile emissions warranty so if you are still below the 80k miles, they must replace the cat for free under federal law and cover all parts and labor costs. there are serious penalties if they refuse and you can even get the EPA involved and threaten legal action.

Thanks, I will inquire about the sensor. I was going by what Honda said and I have had two lights come on in my car in less than a month and both lights have been told it will cost about $1000 to fix each thing.
