Hello all,

I've noticed that lately my 2002 Civic LX is making a short (1 second or so) screeching noise when it starts out cold, it doesn't happen as I'm turning the key but right after it starts.

Once it warms up I can turn it off, start it back up and it won't happen again. Any ideas? Maybe one of the belts?

Thanks in advance ,

Fabian.

It could be any belt basically. You need to check the deflection of each belt. The power steering and alternator is usually the most common, but theres about 3 or 4 others.

If you press on it with your finger and it only goes down about 1/8-1/4" with moderate force, then you should be ok. Of course the best way to check is to get the right tools and cross reference the book.

When was the last time you did a tune up? If it has been a while, I would just replace all the belts, especially if any are starting to look worn.
