sound when turning.. sometimes

alright, well sometimes... when i turn i hear almost a click or or a pop, idk how to explain the sound. but its only when turning, but only sometimes. kinda depends on how fast i'm turning or how sharp the turn is.

it sounds like its coming from the right wheel well area. i'll try and remember the sound next time it happens... but any ideas off hand?

Go to an empty parking lot, cut the wheel all the way, put it in first gear and go very slowly. If you hear the popping then it's your suspension, probably a CV joint or bad axle. It's a common test you should do before you buy a car, it'll tell you a lot about the front end.

Re: sound when turning.. sometimes

Does the click just click once, or is it clicking throughout the turn. I had to replace both drive axles on my 97 civic because the boot wore through and dirt got into the knuckle for the axles. This wears down the axles, and makes the clicking noise. The speed of the clicking will correspond with the speed of the turn. Like DeX said, it could be the CV joint.

it's your CV axle. i would not worry about it if the boots are ok. mike clicks on gradual right hand turns. the boots are fine, so no greese is leaking out. it's just a noise you will here from time to time. mine has been clicking for over 150,000 miles (02 civic 235,000 miles) with no issues. if you want to find a driveline shop in your area. they will replace cage, ball bearings, greese, and boot for about $50 per axle or less. but i would just let it go and save your money.
