How to disable the valet key on an 05 Civic, can it be done?

Hi all, I'm Gregg from MA & my GF's sleezoid son sold her his car, but kept the valet key.

He "steals" the car whenever he feels like it.

She says to me it's OK (she's pretty docile) because that's what Asian families do, help each other. (I'm not Asian).

I think he's gonna wreck it like he did her last vehicle.

He claims he kept the valet key so she'll have access to the car if she loses her keys, but I've got the other set with the fob so he doesn't need it, he's just blowing smoke up her butt & she's falling for it.

He then tells me "well you can't get in the trunk with it". Whoop di do! Once you turn the key twice to bypass that alarm & are in the car all you gotta do it pull the trunk lever near the seat!

So, is there anyway I can disable the valet key so it won't bypass the alarm or at the very least, it won't start the car w/o taking it to a dealer?

Thanks.

what i would do is take it to the dealer and have them clear the ECU of the key codes. then reprogram it with your and her keys then when the ex goes to use it yes his key will let him in but he wont be able to start it.

thats the best i can think of w/o actiualy taking his key. if she is the ofical owner he shouldnt have a key / take now not his car that would be Grand theft auto to me if she didnt give him permisson to use it.

Re: How to disable the valet key on an 05 Civic, can it be done?

Thanks for the advice, but re read the post.

I don't want to take it to the dlr. (they'd figure out I did something if I take the car since i don't normally drive it) & it's her sleazy son, not an ex that has commandeered the key. I want it to be stealthy when i get it bypassed so when he tries it nothing happens.

He's pretty stupid.

This family leaves all the lights on, all the time so in the basement i bypassed the switch so the individual lamps need to be turned. That was a year ago & he still hasn't figured out why it's that way.

Pretty lame for a 28 yr. old, no job, still living (with his G/F) with mom I'd say.

well thats the only way i know of w/o damaging your keys to change out the chip or getting the 5 key locks (7 if sedan?) changed by a locksmith and u and the woman getting new keys + reprograming of the new keys = expensive.

what if when (if he's as dumb as u say he is ) he leaves just take his key from him. or say "remimber last week u lost it and asked me if i had seen it?"

i always do that if im in a bad area, but i leave one or two connected so if it somehow starts, it will run like crap and shut off, and they will be stupid and think the car is messed.

Easy. Just call the cops and report it stolen next time he takes it. He won't do that again.

Or even better, be a man about it and confront him about the situation.

That is exactly what you should do. All this wanting to be stealthy and bs sounds like your afraid of him. Man up and just take the key from him and tell him, "This is no longer yours, your mother bought the car and it comes with all of the keys!".
