Question hot and then cold.

okay 7th gen ex is what im driving. About a month ago I was driving along and when I came to a stop light I realized my temp was rising. So I drove to the nearest parking lot and the temp went back to normal. I figured the thermostat probably just got a little stuck and didnt give it another thought. Since then its gotten cold and ive been using the heat, but it fluctuates between hot and cold. Only when I give it a good dose of pedal to the floor does it start to heat up again. Now I know that the temp could be a sign of a waning thermostat, but if it isnt overheating and the heat is fluctuating, am I looking at the same sign? Could it be a heater core issue? I hope it is just a thermostat! Hit me up let me know what you all think.

Have you checked to make sure your coolant is full?

Check both the reservoir and the radiator.

It is not uncommon for you to loose heat and see the engine temp rise at low RPMs while returning to normal at higher RPMs when your cooling system is low.

Yeah I checked it, but come to find out it WAS the thermostat. I decided to go ahead and change it and now my heat is kicking like a Arizona summer wind storm!
