Rubber piece hidden under front bumper stripped off... need to replace?
There's this rubber piece that is under (and behind) the front bumper that eventually got stripped off and rolled off like licorice... i'm not sure what it's called, but does anyone know if i need to replace this? this rubber peace appeared to be hooked and pressed in, but it's too mangled to put back in now.
is this related to "compliance bushings"? the dealer told me i need to replace them for $500.

you dont need it, its just a rock guard that has no purpose. most cars usually scrape it off going over parking stops or hitting stuff on the highway. technically its called an air dam. but it has no bearing on aerodynamics lol

It might make your gas mileage decrese by a fairly insignificant amount (~1 mile) because the air doesnt move as freely over the underside of your car. It also serves the purpose of letting you know when you've pulled too far forward and your on top of the curb when parking- if its not there you'll drive the front of your car right over those things and end up messing up something sooner or later the more careless you get- which is why its now been torn off of there. Be more careful when parking- dont pull forward until your tires bounce you back from the curb. And no, it doesnt have anything to do with your compliance bushings- which are the bushings on your control arms that are mangled and need to be replaced- which can be done for much less then 500 if you do it yourself.

Mine was off when I bought my car, it was sitting in the trunk. It looks a lot better when it was put back on. I suppose if you have a front lip on your car then it might look a little weird.
