I am going to be as brief as possible. I have an 01 ex 5 speed. I was driving the other day and I was getting into it. I shifted first to 2nd BAM great, went from 2nd to third. S*** WWWAAAAAAAMMMMM, bout threw me through the windshield. I thought for sure the car was done. Went to 9 thousand RPMS. SHe held though, engine is fine. However the tranny is the issue. Now when I drive, you cant hear it when your driving i get a loud whining sound out of the tranny. Sounds almost like a tranny with straight cut gears, the faster you go the louder. Now the car has 87k just changed fluid last year and again this year with MTF. The car shifts like butter its great, but I have no clue what the deal is, my mechanic says what you guys say in the Sticky. Pilot or input shaft bearing. Anyway he is going to pull the tranny and go through it all. Thanks for looking. Any help is greatly appreciated and if i missed anything ill try to be back ASAP. PS the car goes in friday.
