read if your sidemarker leaks...
if you have jdm sidemarkers, chances are you bought them online and they sent you plugs to use with the sockets. they are not waterproof! and when it rains, water can seep in through the wire plug and harness and into the marker. Now i recently went back to clear sidemarker with led bulb due to my old ones being too dirty, and i bought a new oem usdm harness and connector for 2003 civic si. and these had special water proof connection with rubber rings and boots around the wiring! you can also put some dielectric grease in the plug to further reduce chance of water getting in. so if you have this problem, getting a new harness will fix it.

thats the problem. my first harness was from them too and it sucked. connectors in the plug were wide open. went to dealer to get the 03 SI hatch harnesses ($10 each) cause i lost my old one and they have all sorts of water proof plugs on em. and add some grease to the prong holes before installing for extra protection. the sidemarker lens itself is completely sealed/welded shut and doesnt leak from around the edges. it comes through the harness.

If thats the case, I"ll just fix my current ones with heat shrinking and rubber cement or something, along with grease on the prongs. That should work, right? Is the issue the rubber grommet between the rear of the sidemarker housing and the socket itself, or is it the wires into the socket where the issue arises, I'm thinking the later.

Re: read if your sidemarker leaks...
its not around the rubber o-ring where socket meets marker. but rather in the back of the socket where those two prongs are and also the socket plug itself with the wires coming out the back. they dont have anything behind to seal out water. theres nothing between the prongs of the socket either. so yeah if you dry everything, then put grease in the spot where the plug goes, then put some waterproof sealant in the back where the wires come out, should be good to go. i tried heat shrink tube and didnt work. use something like plumbers goop and once you apply it, quickly plug it back in and let it dry. if you mess with it later, it prolly will break from the wires bending around the goo.

I've got a better idea- that goop I used to re attach the plastic sheet behind the door panel- I can look up exactly what it was, but it never dries solid, kinda like silly puddy.
