Odd Rear Vibration
Odd Rear Vibration
Did a quick search, couldnt find anyone else with this problem.

When driving at various speeds i seem to get this odd vibration from what I think is the rear passenger side of the car. I had the tires spin balanced and they are supposedly in perfect balance. I looked to see if any of the weights have come off but everything looks like it should be.
The only thing I noticed was this last weekend when I was adjusting my coilovers the rear passenger tire doesnt turn well. Seems to get stuck after maybe 1 rotation. Could the brakes be too tight? Would that cause a vibration?
Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks.

Re: Odd Rear Vibration
I just had a very similar issue. It turned out to be the brake drum had warped. I assume they got real hot and I must have set my parking brake, which possibly ovalized the drums or they just got seated funny last year when I took them off to check the brake shoes. Anyways, while I was driving the brakes rubbed hard in certain spots which causes uneven wear ("cupping" as they call it). I had the tire shop balance them twice with no improvement at all. I just had to buy new tires.
Try rotating them to the front, I bet you get alot of wobble out of them at 50-60mph. Or while the car is jacked up, try spinning the wheel and watch the tire in comparison to the rim. You might notice some "hops" or low spots. I did this when I replaced my wheel bearings and there was visible wear on 2 sides. Just a few things to consider. GOOD LUCK.

Re: Odd Rear Vibration
Sounds pretty similar to my situation.
I'll have a shop check it out.
Feels like at 50ish they start vibrating the most. I rarely have to go above 50(mostly local driving).
Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Odd Rear Vibration
Well I think I can rule out bad strut, mainly because I hear a slight squeek at for every rotation of the tire, even as I speed up the squeek goes faster. Also most likely not the strut because of the odd way the wheel rolls when the car is jacked up and I turn it and it stops after maybe 1 rotation.
Re: Odd Rear Vibration
then im gonna say wheel bearing, but when u do that, change ur wheel cylinder, shoes and drums, and get rid of all potential problems, but if its not rolling right, its either a self adjuster, bearing or wheel cylinder
Re: Odd Rear Vibration
k, thanks for the tips. I have all of that done then.
