Possibly cracked manifold (header)

I got my car fuel injection system cleaned the other day and my mechanic showed me a crack on the manifold. It is small but, what should i do? I have a 2002 LX 4door. Here are some pics...

Re: Possibly cracked manifold (header)

Well...you do need a new exhaust manifold...the delma you face is your catayltic converter is built into the LX manifold........so if you come to me at honda it's like 800-$1000 & thats all parts... I get like 80 bucks to diagnosis & install
Converters have a lot of high priced metals in them.....they are pricey!!!

I'd probably do an aftermarket manifold & custom made high flow cat....way cheaper & you'll pick up some power.

Re: Possibly cracked manifold (header)

if you are under 8 yrs or 80k miles, do a warranty emissions claim on the cat. they are required by federal laws to replace that, and since its built into the header, they must replace it all. if they dont, call corporate and the dealer will get slapped with a big fine along with a letter making them do the work.

Re: Possibly cracked manifold (header)

hah...no fine, no letter....just a polite phone call telling the dealership honda will pay for the parts & there labor

Honda doesn't make anyone do anything. They just pay for it! but yes....they do have an 8 year or 80,000 mile emissions warranty. Most em2's should be there or over by now....maybe not a 2005 but still.

Re: Possibly cracked manifold (header)

Well im in canada ... so does this warranty still apply here? I have 113,000 Km on it. So i definitely need to get a new header?

I was thinking of getting a catback exhaust. So i guess i should get an Ex header w/ an Ex catback exhaust and get someone to put in a high flow catalytic converter?

Re: Possibly cracked manifold (header)

well to convert to the EX exhaust, you need every exhaust part on that car. header, dp, cat, pipe, and muffler.

Re: Possibly cracked manifold (header)

Those manifolds suck. I had a crack in that same exact spot! I just bought a new one and put it on myself. Honda should recall those things.

OMG! I bought mine for about $350 a couple years ago, now they are upto $517

Hopefully they do something for you if you aren't upgrading to EX.

Re: Possibly cracked manifold (header)

I called up a few dealerships in canada. Some said it was covered and they will replace it and others said they won't because nothing is wrong with the cat even though it is one peice. I'll go to the dealership that cover the change and i'll let you guys know.

FYI - the warranty for the cat in canada is basically the same, 8 year / 130,000km

Re: Possibly cracked manifold (header)

cool yeah, the problem is the cat gets very hot and travels up to the manifold. too much heat and cold cycles will break it. ex cars have the cat on the bottom by itself with just pipe on each side.

Re: Possibly cracked manifold (header)

I just took my 02 Civic DX with 140,000 to a local shop and they said I have a cracked exhaust manifold and wanted like $900 to fix. Would the crack cause the car to lack power. Currently when I'm in 5th gear at 60mph, it seems like my car has no power. I floor it and I get monor acceleration. I'm gonna try to fix this exhaust manifold myself. I've seen the honda exhaust manifold for $519 and after market for $350. Would it make a difference if I went aftermarket?
