any have DIY for cv axle/halfshaft
Anyone have one? or make a quick one for me? it'll be my first time doing this. I found that the inner cv boot on the passenger side had a tear in it. and for the past couple of days my car would vibrate every now and then every time i gas it. but never vibrates when im just coasting, braking. only when i gas it. So if anyone has done this before and has a DIY it would be REALLY APPRECIATED!!

Re: any have DIY for cv axle/halfshaft
Easiest way I've found to pull a halfshaft is to jack the car up (or put it on a lift) remove the spindle nut, use a copper faced hammer to bang the axle loose, then unbolt the shock off the spindle (two big-*** bolts), unbolt the brake line and ABS sensor brackets and swing the spindle down enough to pull the axle out. As long as everything goes right it should only take about 20 minutes to have the axle out.

Sorry, yeah. I didn't go over the obvious things like tranny fluid. Torque wrench is not needed, but a 1/2" breaker bar is. You don't need to split the ball joint as that be a real pain in the ***, nor do you need to remove the end link. You can do it that way (in the HT DIY), or you can do it my way.
Only tools required are:
- a 32mm (I think) socket for the spindle nut (i'll check later today)
- 1/2" breaker bar (or a good impact wrench)
- 19mm socket and 23mm socket (or crescent wrench) for the two shock bolts
- copper faced hammer, or normal and a piece of wood to bang the axle out.
- 17mm socket (for tranny fill plug)
- 3/8" ratchet (for tranny drain plug)
- slotted screwdriver (to notch the spindle nut when re-installing)
Do you have center caps that can be removed? If so, it's easier to pop the center cap, then with the wheel on and car on the ground, get on that spindle nut with your breaker bar (thanks Tom!).

so in that last part, are you saying its easier to just pop out the center cap and have your car on the ground than it is jacked up? also, do i have to drain my tranny fluid and refill? or just have some container around to catch some fluid that may come out from removing the halfshaft?

It's all going to come out when you remove the halfshaft so you may as well drain from the plug and refill when you are done. Cleaner that way.
If you don't have an impact wrench, then yes, it's easier to put the car on the ground (+tire and - center cap) to get on it with a breaker breaker bar and 32mm (I confirmed the size today) socket.

LOL, lifetime warranty FTW at least! That sucks though. That's why I won't touch mine without an impact wrench. Don't suppose you bent up the spot where the spindle nut gets notched in, did you? That is usually the culprit for making them stay on.

Re: any have DIY for cv axle/halfshaft
locked? wtf! I didnt know that. so just take a flathead, a big one I assume so it wont bend. and stick it in between the spindle bolt and whatever its against, the hub? and just pry up the spindle bolt? damn, i was thinking it was because it was on too tight we kept breaking breaker bars.
I thinking that it wont break using the same size socket but with a 3/4" breaker bar. so that mean I have to go buy a 3/4" breaker bar and a 1 1/4" socket to fit the breaker bar. It shouldnt break I hope considering how much thicker the 3/4" is compared to the 1/2".
so idk. let me know what exactly to do. cuz I really wanna get that pos halfshaft out. thanks rufus and again speedfoos

No no, Look at the shaft of the spindle and you'll see a notch in it. Some of the spindle nut will have been punched down into it to keep it from coming off due to rotation and vibration. You need to pry that little bit of metal up before the nut will come off if you're not using an impact.

Loosen it with the car on the ground. Get a breaker bar or use the end of your jack lever for leverage. It should break looking like that

okay, but a 1/2" breaker bar should do it since I pried it? cuz yea, i didnt know about prying that and im hoping thats how my friend and I broke those breaker bars. and yea both times was with the car on the ground hard on the brakes. hehe.

Stand on the breaker, and push quickly to "shock" it. It will come loose. I just did mine on Saturday to put my clutch in. Unfortunately, two wheel studs were stripped and I had to drop the damn hub off to get new studs put in. Grrrrrr

Re: any have DIY for cv axle/halfshaft
damn, that sucks. how much was it to replace your studs? man, i hope i dont break any studs, or have to replace the whole hub (knocks on wood). that would suck for myself.
Re: any have DIY for cv axle/halfshaft
No need to jump on your breaker bars, folks. Get a long pipe that fits over breaker bar handle. Leverage is your friend. I use a 5 ft pipe named "Big Bertha" who has yet to be denied.

Re: any have DIY for cv axle/halfshaft
I needed to loosen a motor mount last night for my ETD and the only deep socket 17mm was in a 3/8ths. Since I couldn't get any leverage, I pulle dout my stock exhaust and put the end of the muffler tip over the socket. Biggest breaker bar I've ever used. lol
