dent in hood from hail, how to remove?...
i just noticed yesterday that there is a dent in my hood, and i think it was from last weeks 2 minute hail storm. its not that easily noticeable, but i know that its there, and it drives me CRAZY can i do that paintless dent removal stuff that they do on doors? the dent is about the size of a 1" diameter rock, how much would something like this cost. i think my insurance will cover hail damage, so i might get them to pay for it.
Man, that really sucks, but I know how you feel. It just got done hailing like 30 minutes ago. There is one big dent in the hood, like a quarter, one on the roof like a quarter, and 3 others on the roof, like a pencil eraser size. That is all I found so far, but I bet there will be more when it drys and the sun comes out. I sure hope my insurance takes care of it. Good luck to ya.
I'm pretty sure most car insurance policies will cover hail damage. But don't forget that there's also a deductible (if you have it). Paintless dent repair will cost around $100 for each panel (i.e., 1 hood).
It's unlikely that your insurance will cover $100 of damage, if you have a deductible greater than that.

I got this from one of the mods, Grey, for ice dent removal:
<< Yeah, that's basically it. Nothing much more than that. Take the lipstick, or eyeshadow and mark the center of the dent. Then take a heat gun or hairdryer and heat the area up. The just use the ice cube to cool the area down around the edges of the dent. Just go in a circular motion. Repeat that and it'll slowly start to pop back out. You need to get the area as hot as possible. Obviously not red hot, but a heat gun should work better than a blow dryer. >>
If you can get your hands on dry ice, it may work even better cuz of the greater temperature difference. Regular ice should work fine too, but it will just take a lot longer than with dry ice.
I've got around 9 small ice dents on my hood... don't think I'll have the patience to do all of them myself. I'm just gonna pay for that paintless dent removal service and get all the dents fixed in one shot. They gave me an estimate of $100, and it'll just take around 1 hour.

<< maybe you could try hammering it out from the underside of the hood? >>
There are support beams underneath your hood, which may block the area where your dent is. Those paintless dent removal guys have special tools to reach in below the support beams.
Also, if you're not too sure about what you're doing, I wouldn't recommend banging out a dent yourself. If you gonna DIY, stick with the ice method.
I just had a small dent removed from a place called dentbusters. It cost me one hundred dollars because it was on a crease. Something like that would probably cost around 50-75 dollars.

hmmm, i dont have a heat gun(nor do i know what that is), where can i get one and how much is it? cause there are at least 3 dents on the roof of my dads maxima, so we want those removed to. does heating the hood/roof mess the paint up in anyway? civic is silver and maxima is black(and the paint on the maxima is horrible, chips easily, so i want to be extra careful with that one)
If you're worried about paint damage, then just try using a hair dryer and ice cubes. That definitely will not harm you paint. Grey said that you have to repeat the hot/cold applications many times to fix one dent, so it may take several tries.
