So how much is warning light going to cost me?

My cars SRS warning light came on like three days ago and is still on.
So it looks like there is a problem. I hope nothing too big.

Any idea what it could be? It looks like I will need to go to the dealer right.

Re: So how much is warning light going to cost me?

Well I don't just want to reset the light and forget about it.
The light must have come on for a reason and If were talking about airbags then thats pretty important.
I will take a look under the seats to check for loose wires.

There is also a TSB out there that describes a faulty sensor which trips the light. Someone did a thread here on it too. If you don't find it by the time I get back from work tonight, I'll dig it up.

Re: So how much is warning light going to cost me?

This has been covered. Although many you have a unique problem....

The usually questions:
Have you hit anything in the past month, or has it hit you? Are you sure?
Did you disconnect the yellow srs connectors under your seats, or had they came apart on their own (very hard to do)?
Were you messing with wiring at all in the past month? What were you doing?

If you answered no to all these questions, take your car to an autoshop and have them plug into your obd and check what codes your throwing, that will narrow it down hopefully. This test is almost always free. One of thoes trade your lisence/creditcard for an hour kinda things.

Disconnecting any of the SRS components while the battery was still connected would trip your srs light to come on. If you got hit, your seat belt tensioners might have gone out and causes the SRS light to come on. Hell, maybe its a faulty wire.

Re: So how much is warning light going to cost me?

if you haven't messed with your seats or any wiring, I bet it's your OPDS unit. they can go bad when electronic devices like cell phones or laptops are near them.

Re: So how much is warning light going to cost me?

If there is a fault, the srs light will come back on almost right away. What year is your car? It may be the actual seat belt buckle, I know we have had a few 01-05 Civics that show a 09-3 dtc and the only way to clear it is to replace the drivers seat belt buckle. Very rarely are there any faults with the Civic OPDS units...Accords are a different story.

Re: So how much is warning light going to cost me?

i just reset mine a week ago and it hasn't come back on, so i believe there is no problem. I never even moved my seat back or did anything pertaining to my seats and it came on like at the beginning of summer

theres only one REAL way to test if your airbag still works, and it involves something similar to this :

Re: So how much is warning light going to cost me?

mine came on for no reason too! i reset, came back on, reset, came back on, about 8 times... so i looked under the seat and the connector was a little bit loose.. it stays a little loose, so i electrical taped the **** out of it to hold it together, reset the light, and now the problem is solved

Re: So how much is warning light going to cost me?

you can either reset it yourself or take it in to your local honda dealership for FREE. From my understanding its under 150K warranty

Thanks for the responses dooods, it looks like this is a pretty common ocurance
I will try resetting it, if that does not work I will take other steps maybe test it
I'll make the dealer my very last resort.

Re: So how much is warning light going to cost me?

That's right. It's a 150k/10 year extended warranty for your vehicle. This SRS light indicator problem is your OPDS (Occupant Position Detection System). In the event of a crash, the air bag inflation rate would be incorrect, which may increase the risk of injury to the driver or passenger. I have no SRS light problem on my 04 Civic yet, but my 03 CRV does. I notified American Honda Motor(1-800-999-1009) and provided them my CRV's VIN number to check if your vehicle is affected/related to this matter. They can explain more about the problem and will instruct you to notify and inform Honda dealerships regarding the matter. They dealers will diagnose your vehicle and if they find the problem relating OPDS, they will repair/replace the wiring. If the OPDS has nothing to do with the SRS light, you might end up paying for the diagnose service. Hope this helps!

Re: So how much is warning light going to cost me?

The SRS light on my 05 came on recently at 52k. I reset the light and it stayed off for a short trip and then returned. I have contacted Honda but still have not gotten a diagnosis ( I don't think I should have to pay $85 for diagnostic, Honda needs to step up IMO. ) The dealer said the only coverage past 3 years/36k is on the seatbelt assemblies. So I'm going to wait it out with Honda ( she will be calling soon, I know) If anyone has any documentaion on extended coverage I could use some ammo. I dont have side airbags so I dont think I have the OPDS.
