Autotrans cooler
Autotrans cooler
Hi,,new here. Picked up a 2001 Civic EX automatic sedan for my daughter last weekend with 91,000 miles on it. Runs out fine,,trans shifts up and down smoothly. Motor seems strong. Idles nice and quite. Ride is nice. So far so good...
Couple of things to ask about.
1) Timing belt change is soon at 100,000 miles right?
2) I should add a transmission cooler. Thinking about a Hayden model for compacts. Actual size is 5 7/8" x 11" x 3/4". Is this brand OK? Is there realy room to install this damn thing in front of the radiator and A/C coil without breaking out my sawzall, torch and other demolition type tools???
3) Engine has sort of a high pitched tingy (pinging) sound..maybe valves..maybe vtech system, maybe normal?? Its not real bad. Do the valves need adjusting on this model with this many miles???

Re: Autotrans cooler
Welcome!
Timing belt is 100K or 110K.. I dont recall. Best to do the water pump and tension pulley. Regarding a cooler, its purely optional. Usually an extra cooler is needed when you install a higher stall torque converter or plan on towing. Hayden makes a good cooler.
Valves are suppose to be done around 60K I think. If you got the owners manual it'll list the maintenance schedule.
