Air Condensor cooling fins

Has anyone had a close inspection of their air conditioning condensor?
I had a close look and noticed the bottom two rows of fins are pushed through and just dangling between the condensor and radiator. Only the outside ends are holding on.
The next 2 rows up from that are flattened out with bugs mashed across them.
I do only occasional country driving, and can't believe that only larger bugs can do that much damage.
Could it be a defect? Anyone else have this happened to them?

Re: Air Condensor cooling fins

The fins are VERY thin because that’s best for cooling efficiency. They will bend with just touching them. I wouldn't worry about it as long as it’s not loosing refrigerant and you still have good cooling.

Yup. I'm missing most of the bottom two rows myself. No worries here. It would probably help to put an aluminum screen over the condenser fins, but I wouldn't worry about it too much.

It just seems too unusual for the bottom two rows of fins to be punched out.
I understand the fins are very thin and I expect there will be some bent, or flattened, areas..... but never heard or noticed something that extreme.

Do the radiator shops have the abilities & materials to refill them if I decide to do that?

Re: Air Condensor cooling fins

even if they did it would probably be more expensive then a new condensor. They are pretty cheap to replace. and its common for rocks to get thrown up and do that kind of damage. Mine is totally mashed up after 120k miles.
