Dash Noises (Creaking)

Ladies/Gents...

I am on my 3rd Civic (2003 Civic LX Coupe) - these cars are incredible!

Can't imagine not having a Civic in my life...that is unless the freakin' dash doesn't stop creaking (that would be the best word to describe, but maybe also rattling or ticking). I have never heard anything like this from any previous Civics (91 and 93 Si) and though it pains me to say it, it sounds like I am driving some crappy 80's Chevy and I simply won't tolerate this from a Honda. I do not think I have a lemon (as it has been FLAWLESS in every other aspect for over 3 years and 120,000KM) but I am a really picky guy and it drives me crazy. Even my wife, who is oblivious to anything car related is complaining about the noise

It is a not really a dynamic noise, if I had to localize it - passenger side, near the A-pillar/just ahead of the airbag, right near where the window meets the dash. The funny thing is - it (creaking sound) is only mildly related to the road conditions. I can be on perfectly smooth asphalt and it STILL makes the noise. So it is must be related to the torque/load on the chassis right?! I have tried pushing the dash, pulling on it, and if I put all my weight on it when driving it seems to go away - obviously a less than ideal solution.

Had the car for 3 years now (has 120,000KM on it) I am in Toronto, Canada - so it does get quite cold here - but last year it started in the winter and went away when it warmed up. Well, it is warm and it is still here (if anything worse now). I park underground and am wondering if the constant change from extreme cold to warm temperature in the garage is taking a toll? Maybe the expanding/contracting of the plastic parts?

I am weary of taking the dash off for fear of making another noise somewhere else, which has happened to friends with other makes of cars, nor do I want to pay shop rate for the dealer or a mechanic to drive around for an hour then spend a few hours on a hunt to try to fix it (can you tell I have tried before to get this fixed?!) - but if anyone has had a similar problems or better has a clever, cost effective solution - I would be forever grateful.

I really don't want to sell this car - but man, I can't put up with relentless annoyance and I'll dump it and get another model. Yes, I am that fickle and superficial. I know these cars as tight as drums so why should I have to deal with this.

Merci,
MOZIZ

Make sure it is not coming from the A pillar.

There was a TSB on dash noise and also 1 for the A pillar.

Re: Dash Noises (Creaking)

I am 99% sure that it is not the A-pillar.

I found this: # TSB #01028 -- CREAKING NOISE FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. *TT (NHTSA ID #10003053, AUGUST 05 2003) on http://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/C...003/tsbs.shtml

Is this what you are referring to?

If so, what is my next course of action? Call Honda reference this TSB and get them to check the VIN to see if it has been addressed?

Forgive me, I am a virgin at this because I have never had a problem before!

Re: Dash Noises (Creaking)

I actually own a 2002 Civic LX, and I noticed that when im driving on the highway at around 60-70 mph, i can hear this vibrating sound coming from the EXACT same place you described... Like infront of the airbag on the passenger side by the window.
