91 accord - how would oil end up in distributor cap?

91 accord - how would oil end up in distributor cap?

wasnt able to start this thing for a month. today deicded to start taking it apart to see if i can find anything wrong. found a bunch of oil in the distributor cap, cleaned it out. car started right up

now my question...howd it end up there?

If your distributor is right on the camshaft then the oil seal in front of the distributor is gone bad.
Can not tell exactly how u can do it easily. You may be just grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull it out.
worse comes to worse - you got to take ur camshaft out. (get the tightening pattern when u put it back together and u may also have to do valve clearance since the camshaft is pulled out)
