Rear View Mirror Mod

I need to either replace or modify my rear view mirror. My problem is that the stock mirror is mounted a little bit too low, and since I'm 6 feet tall it directly blocks my view. I'd like to mount it up higher, closer to the roof, to get it out of the way. Any suggestions? I have an '05 coupe.

Thanks

~Dave

Re: Rear View Mirror Mod

The later models rear view mirrors are also mounted to the roof with four screws. You can buy an aftermarket one and mount it to the windshield with the adhesive stuff (just mount it a little higher). The adhesive stuff is pretty damn strong. I used that stuff when I mounted my gentex temp/compass mirror and i haven't had a problem

Re: Rear View Mirror Mod

Mine is mounted to the roof. Removing it and then attaching a new mirror to the windshield with adhesive sounds fairly easy. Should I go with that solution?

Re: Rear View Mirror Mod

yeah if it comes off and looks okay without a big hole in the roof. the adhesive is special and you can get from any auto parts store.

Re: Rear View Mirror Mod

The only problem with that is that once you mount a mirror on the windshield, you'll have an empty spot on the roof where your old mirror was attached. The cap that covers the screws and stuff is actually attached to the original mirror. What I did was dremel off the shaft that was attached to the original mirror and kept the metal piece with the screws and screwed it back in.

Great idea. I'll probably do the same. What mirror did you install; anything special?

Re: Rear View Mirror Mod

yeah I installed a gentex mirror that has a temperature and compass. I got it off an 04 chevy tahoe. Looks pretty cool and I kinda like knowing what the temperature is.

Re: Rear View Mirror Mod

yeah I thought about getting the '06, but it didn't have a temp display. Besides my good friend ebay had it for way cheaper. I paid about $100 for the mirror, wires and sensors.
