question about stock intake
in the intake assembly there are 2 parts...the one that has no filter an the one with filter(i think)....so is it ok if i get the one that has no intake?
took it off...it sounds good

Re: question about stock intake
crack it open, you'll see tubes branching out from the main tube to the hollow part of the box. the hollow part of the box acts as a reservoir of air. when you start to accelerate, it lessens the time of the throttle body to suck air.

Re: question about stock intake
^ lol. youre right.
ok lets put it this way. the resonator "gathers" and "composes" the air then hand it over to the filter then to the throttle body. like a servant who picks and stems out a grape and put it in her king's mouth.
its always easier to eat something that is already prepared than preparing your food by yourself.
removing the resonator and leaving only the filter box is like having a short ram intake. we all know (most of us do) that it only helps to produce power at high speed where it helps to circulate the air in the engine bay. other way goes for the cold air intake.
im going little off here. the resonator gives the throttle body an instant heat-insulated air for suction thus giving you power in taking off (0-40kph or 0-20mph)

Re: question about stock intake
btw, looking at the picture above... the throttle body would be sucking hot air. evrey rise in the air temperature causes the engine to lose about 0.1hp
why do you even need a noisy engine bay if youre running on stock?

Re: question about stock intake
I still can not see that the resonator acting as a reservoir. The branching tubes that u see are cavities, each cavity is used to decrease noise created by one frequency (attenuation). Thats the reason its called a resonator.
Re: question about stock intake
there are several functions of the resonator, not just to keep the noise down.
heres a few i know so far:
- intake tube is near the fender wall away from the engine to avoid sucking hot air.
- helps to block heat away from the air passage
- keeps the vacum noise down
- acts like a resevoir of air for instant acceleration (as far as i know)
