Power loss
Power loss
Im loosing power in my 04 Coupe VP M/T... I cant seem to figure out where the problem is but I can definitely feel the change in power within the past few months.
Ihave no clue where to start but I will give it a try any way. An year before from now When i had just bought an Aem V2 intake and had no other modification on the car my car was perfect ... I had no problem winning street encounters with Automatic 98-02 Accords and even SCION TC's. My biggest acheivement was winning from my cousin who has an 01 civic coupe manual tranny with an APC intake, ebay headers and custom 100 buck exhaust ...
Now the situation is that i feel that my car is taking way longer in 2nd gear than it used to ... actually the 1st gear too Before accerleration was FASTer than what it is now ... I rememebr that my tires used to SCREECH when i used to put the car in 2nd gear but thats IMPOSSIBLE now ... RESPONSIVENESS is dead ... i mean its like DULL ...
Im loosing from the same cars i used to win before
A Focus is the only car i havent raced right now coz if i loose from that ill probably kill my civic
First i thought it was different Gas and i tried 87 but not much of a difference and i dont want to use 87 or 91 that much coz i know that the car gets used to it 4ever
... Does anyone have any clue what it might be ?
When ibought the V2 intake an year n a half ago my friend told me to get an exhaust job done asap before i start reving too much ... His theory was that V2 sucks in too much air and coz if the stock exhaust piping being too small theres not much space for air to exit ... which in the long term will mess up your head gasket... I ignored him at that time ... but im thinkning if he might be right
My clutch has a squeeling sound coming out of it ... everytime u press it and release it theres the noise ... i put WD40 underneath on the thing thats connected ... and the noise goes away for a few days but comes back again
too much problem i tell ya
Ne suggestions what it could be man ????
Head Gasket ? Clutch ?? Pressure plate ???

Okay, first - use 87 octane gas. The higher octanes do not perform better, but actually will build up carbon on your valves since the gas won't fully burn. Use the 87 and get some FP60 gas additive to clean everything out.
The clutch squeak is the slave cylinder. Pull it apart and use some litium grease and the squeak will go away (there is a DIY around here somewhere). Mine was squeaking a year or so ago and after relubing it, no more squeak. It may come back in time, but regreasing will make it stop.
Your engine can only push as much air as the smallest restriction. So it won't suck more air thru your intake than it can blow thru your header/exhaust. There are a couple of ways to check your head gasket: compression test, or is there oil in your coolant.
When is the last time you cleaned your air filter or changed your spark plugs? Sure they say the plugs can last 100k miles, but a new set of plugs typically improves performance.
So I would definately say get some FP60 to clean out the engine, check/replace your plugs, and clean your air filter.

Don't forget to change the plug wires. I also recomend new air in the tires, if you put summer air in the tires and run them in the winter the air will be too thin and you won't get good traction in the snow.
Looking forward to seeing your neon exhaust tip Alpha 5!

I know they don't need wires.
I am not going to get the neon tip.
Also a good recommendation on the correct plugs is. NGK Laser Platinum plugs.
A good gas treatment is Barrymen B12 Chemtool. I love the stuff.
Or you could use some seafoam.

Several threads around about plugs. I think the only strong recommendation is stay away from Bosch Platinums.

Now go back to asking people stupid questions, and wasting our time.

They also have an oil additive LC20. I've heard good things about it but haven't tried it. I'll probably get some when I finally reorder some more FP60. I know there was a code to get 20% off a while ago but not sure if it still works. And the Lube Control guy hasn't posted since August.
