Rep Power: 247 HELP! car running really wierd no CEL. URGENT
hey guys. well i was on my way back to target and there was this slow driver so i went into boost to pass him then i proceeded with my routine driving. after that instant my car felt like a completely different car. the car idles ugly, i vaccuum at 15 instead of 20, and my car bogs out for about 5 seconds from a dead stop when i am trying to go. i make it home and check in the engine bay and i hear a loud hissing sound probably a vaccuum leak coming from around the MAP sensor area around my missing link. i had a vaccuum leak before and the car never ran any different just slow but now it runs real shitty. i dont know whats wrong with the car. the car cant hold a steady rpm. lets say i would try to hold it 3k rpm the car would bounce up and down plus or minus 200 rpms. big plumes of black smoke are coming out of my exhaust. what can it be guys i need to fix this asap i got a new job and i start tomorrow and i might not make it!

Rep Power: 246 well u kinda answered somewat your own question. its a possibility one of air hoses slipped or even broke, which is prob wat is causing a loud hissing noise. i would look around to see if any of the hoses are dmg or off. just b.c it had a leak before doesnt mean its goin to act the same.
for the black smoke is b.c of excess fuel being dumped into the engine and cannot b completely burned off which throws that black smoke thro the exhaust. this is wat i got from a website:
"Black Smoke: Black smoke is caused by excess fuel that has entered the cylinder area and cannot be burned completely. Another term for excess fuel is "running rich." Poor fuel mileage is also a common complaint when black smoke comes out of the tailpipe. Black smoke out the tailpipe is the least cause for alarm. Excess fuel will usually effect engine performance, reduce fuel economy, and produce a fuel odor.
How did the fuel get into the cylinder in the first place? Some of the causes of excess fuel are a carburetor that is out of adjustment, a faulty fuel pump, a leaky fuel injector, or a faulty engine computer or computer sensor. If black smoke is present, check the engine oil as in the white smoke example to make sure excess fuel has not contaminated it. Do not start the engine if a heavy, raw fuel smell can be detected in the engine oil. Call your mechanic and advise him of what you have found."

Rep Power: 247 i sorta knew that but the question is where should i be looking? me and my buddy did a visual inspection and we couldnt find anything or feel any air being pushed or sucked in. and what air hoses are you talking about? my vaccuum source is hooked up to my brake booster line and i checked every T connected to the brake booster and i got nothing [bov, boost gauge, fmu, etc]. i have been running rich this whole time even before this happened, maybe im running even more richer. i dont have a wideband so i dont know for sure thats just what i am thinking. any more help is appreciated thanks.

Rep Power: 246 uh have u even tuned the car? if youve been running rich and i mean the bad rich engine is gettin fubard slowly. i suggest if u havent already go tune the car. i have no idea wat your engine bay looks like so i cant help u with wat hoses to look for. but if u hear a hissing noise try to find the source unless its at the map sensor. i believe that sensor has 2 hoses goin to it so check those. but if those hoses are even disconnected or damaged then it should thro a cel. but the black smoke issue is covered so once u find out the vacuum leak and fixed it, go get the car tuned immediately if u havent already. i would b smacking myself if i never tuned the car after installing a turbo

Rep Power: 247 ..... thanks crazy asian, you pointed me in the right direction. it was just the hole in the missing link, the filter fell out or something. i jsut stuck a little sponge in there and now it works fine. i just put a big trash bag in my engine bay and the leak sucked up the bag. just a little tip if you guys are trying to find a vaccuum leak. plastic bags work pretty good thanks again cars running like a champ.

casey, you need to get that ML off asap! Once we get you tuned up and set boost limiter you wont need it anymore.
Just curious have you tried running your carr without the ML?

Rep Power: 247 yo logan. ... thanks for checking out the thread. no i havent tried running it without the ML yet. maybe i could jsut hook up the emanage with everything at 0 and run the voltage clamp off of the emanage instead of the ML. what are the pros and cons of the ML and voltage clamp?

Rep Power: 247 cel of doom? oh noes! lol. what do you mean? whats so bad about ML and voltage clamp? from what i heard and read ML has the upper hand because it can still read barometer atmospheric pressures and accomodate for them while when you voltage clamp it cant account for different atmospheric pressures. yeah i really dont know what im talking about.
