Weird sound when in Drive

Weird sound when in Drive
I have a 2002 ex civic coupe and lately I noticed that sometimes when the car is in drive and I accelerate, there is a whining sound like if the car was put in reverse and i was stepping on the pedal. It sounds even louder sometimes when I turn the steering wheel. Does anyone know what may cause this sound? It gets louder when I step on the gas even more... I'm not sure what exactly is causing it. Any help would be great!

well if it gets louder when turning the steering wheel, check the power steering fluid level. if the level is fine, you can isolate the pump by removing the belt. if the noise goes away, the power steering pump is causing the noise.
