I drive a 2002 civic Ex coupe, automatic with around 52000 miles, engine light has been on for the past 2 weeks now, the thing is engine light comes on when I start the car in the morning but after I have been driving it for a while the engine light goes off, when the engine light is on though and I'm going around 60 and step off the gas to slow down the car shakes and then as soon as I step on the gas again it drives and when I'm at low speeds it doesn't do that just when I'm around 45 and over and step off the gas the car shakes again, and here is the kicker when the engine light is off the car drives fine and couple of days ago I took it in the to the honda dealer and as I was driving there the engine light went off and when they looked at it they said eveything is fine and the only problem was that my 2 brake lights weren't working and had it replaced for about 12 bucks, and they told me to come back if the engine light comes back on, what do guys think the problem could be any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

take it to the local autozone or advance auto parts and have them hook a scanner to it. did the engine light come back on at all after the dealer?

yeah the engine light came back on agian after I took it to the honda dealer, and it's still doing the same thing the engine light will come on and off I'll have to check if we have autozone or advance auto parts in ontario, canada

you need to check the code. buy a $40 reader on ebay if youre too lazy to find a store to get it checked. and you can keep this in your car and plug it in right when the light comes on which is useful. my vote is for cylinder misfire, possibly due to a headgasket leak or bad spark plugs.

okay the weirdest thing is I thought it might have something to do with the weather, yesterday and today it wasn't cold and the engine light has not come on once, what do you guys think it could be? because before it would get cold and the engine light would be, and when the temperture would go down it would go off
