Shifting Problem
Shifting Problem
Recently there is play in my shifter. When in any gear it feels like I can move the entire shiftbox. For example, I can put it in first and push up a little then when I put it in second I can pull down a bit. It's kind of hard to explain. Also, it seems that I cant shift into 3rd quickly at higher RPMs, it misses the gear and stays in neutral. My friend seems to think it's my clutch, but I have my doubts that the problem is that simple. Going to do some further inspection/diagnoses later, but I'm just wondering if anyone had the same problem before.

UPDATE on shifting problems
After driving around today I couldn't put my car into 1st, 3rd or 5th gear. Luckily I was close to home and able to make it back in 2nd and 4th. When I got home I tried to put it in reverse and heard a metal breaking sound (uhh ohh).
Well I removed my center console and come to find out my REVO SS broke! The bracket that is welded to the shifter stick that holds the primary cable just completly broke off! After further inspection (and comparison with the stock shifter) I noticed that the weld for the bracket is not as strong as on the stock. The weld isn't all the way around the bracket. After many years of hard shiftting, the bracket broke from the rear where it wraps around the stick shifter.
Needless to say the weld on the REVO SS is incomplete, and if you are the type that shifts hard (slams it into gear), you might want to keep an eye on this. I'm going to have the bracket welded back on, but this time I'm going to have extra metal and welds that go all the way around the bracket so it never breaks off again!. I would suggest everyone with a REVO SS do this. I've had the REVO SS since it first came out so it has been installed and in perfect working condition for about 4+ years. Anyhow, I would suggest taking your center console off every 6months or so to check that the bracket that holds the primary cable link isn't starting to break off.
I'm glad I kept my stock shifter or else my car would be undriveable right now.

EDIT: Pic Links to broken REVO SS. I'm linking them because the pics are large. Remember this happened after around 4 years of shifting. Before the break, the REVO SS worked perfectly and I still reccommend the product.

Wasn't from slamming it. Just normal wear and tear. If you look where the welds are in that picture of the welds, you'll see that the welds are only on one side. I say it's from normal wear and tear because it lasted so damn long. If it were going to break from slamming, then it would have broken a lot sooner. Of course if you seriously granny shift all your life, then the revo will probably never break, but why did you buy a short shifter then? =P
