either pop the whole piece off (the whole thing.. like ac vents and ***** and everything)... put some electrical tape around the end of a flat screwdriver and then carefully pry the bottom of the whole thing lose.. theres like 2 clips on the bottom and 2 on each side and 2 on the top and the whole thing comes out... theres a diy in the diy section or i/someone will help you more if you need it

or

get the magic wand things that you shove in next to the headunit that have weird lil hooks on them... its not that hard but ive got headtrama and a headache thats killing me so i dont feel like finding pics

the lil square holes are where the clips are..

thats what the back of the assembly looks like with the headunit removed.. that gives you a better show of what the clips look like.. dont worry they do pop out if you pull on them.. just be careful across the top above the vents.. the plastic is pretty thin there.. but if you start at the bottom you should be ok..

for some reason i want to say that there is one or two screws in the bottom of it somewhere that has to be removed before you can pull the whole thing out.. (my brain could be making this up for all i know but its easy enough to check so you dont risk breaking anything)...
the piece above the cup holders (the one with the lighter plug and 2 other buttons/blanks for buttons) i think also has to come out.. it has 5 of the same type of clips on it.. then i remember something about having to lay on the floor of yer car and look up and theres 1 screw that you can see that has to come out before you can pull out the headunit assembly.... again... i could be making this up i honestly dont remember if its there or not.. its been 3+ years since i took it apart...
the only reason im thinking you might have to take that piece out is cuz i have this pic.. in the bottom right corner of it that lil metal plate is the bottom of the support for the headunit.. it has 2 holes in it (maybe for screws.. i dont remember) either way id start with the bottom piece just to save yourself the risk of having to go back and do it anyway.. and if you dont need to remove it.. well.. it pushes right back into place

umm... lets see... to prevent scratching the crap out of everything take a dish towel/washcloth/newspaper/tape/shirt/whatever and wrap it around the blade of a flathead screwdriver.. it needs to be something thick enough to offer a bit of protection but something thin enough to still allow you to shove the tip between the hard plastic and the soft part of the dash... start at the bottom on either side and work your way up one side then do the other.. for the top just be careful.. i think it also helps if you pop out the vents before you try to remove the assembly... do the same thing with the screwdriver on the sides of the vents.. there are 2 1/8" nubs on each side that hold them in place/let them move up and down.. you only need to pop one of them out to get the whole thing to slide out.. be careful to not drop anything down the duct work.. it will rattle forever and drive you nuts..

i remember being all worried the first time i took it apart.. and once i got it off i was like "wait.. what was i worried about.. that took like 2 seconds and was easy as hell"

hope that helps
