2k1 Civic Aircon Foul Odor

Do you experience having foul odor coming out from your A/C just after you turn on the blower? The odor (smells like wet carpet) suddenly vanish once you turn on the A/C switch. Are there any remedies to prevent this? Thanks.

its been discussed. the stink is a honda thing. run your a/c more regularly to prevent the smell. it's a mildew that builds up in the vents. worst case senerio take it to your dealer and have him check you a/c and filters. after a minute or so of your a/c running the funk goes away.

mildew buildup on the vents or the filters ? if it's the vents just clean your vents... if it's the filter then WTF !

it is mildew that builds up somewhere along the AC lines...my tech told me a quick fix that i havent tried yet
run the AC full blast with it ventign air only inside the car...take soem lysol and spray alot of it inside so it circulates aroudn the ac system..somethign to kill the mildew and leave it on.. otherwise ull have to take it honda have them take apart ur AC system put it in detergent and take a whole day....theyll usually do it once for free

Exact same problem here, almost from day 1. It seems weird, but the problem really DOES go away right after you turn the AC button on.
