3rd Gear Scrapes Please Help
3rd Gear Scrapes Please Help
I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX 5 spd. When shifting into 3rd at a high rate of rmps, my car scrapes. Also if I was coming onto an off ramp and shifting into third it scrapes, and under normal driving conditions it scrapes going into 5th. Could skipping gears could have caused this, or is my cluth going out? Thank You and if there was a post about this, I am sorry I did search before I wrote this. Sorry guys, after looking through the different topics I found some of my answer.http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/im...lies/smile.gif

Well, hopefully you found your answer. If not, slamming into 3rd will cause your synchros to grind. The more you do it, the worse it gets until you detroy the synchros. If it grinds going into 5th regularly, try changing the tranny fluid. My 01 EX was getting tough going into 5th, changed the fluid and it goes in much easier.
ya i was going to say change your tranny fluid, clutch might be going out, i didnt know the vics had synchros on the tranny, if they do thats awesome and it could be those going out.
changing your fluid wouldnt hurt and you'd know if you have any damage by looking for metal or bronze shavings. If you find them then you will need to take it apart and find out whats worn. Its more than likely you blocking rings for the syncros.
